Sound Journeys

Set the Stage for Deep Connection

About

About  Trip

From an early age, music surrounded me. It wasn’t always the kind of music I liked, but it was always present, shaping my environment. As a child, I was especially captivated by drums and drumming—their rhythm, their energy, their ability to bring people together. I dreamed of playing the drums myself, but when the time came to choose an instrument for school band, the drum section seemed to be already spoken for. Instead, I found myself with a trombone, an instrument I played all through high school. This easily moved me to the bass guitar.  Yet, even during those years, my love for drums never faded. Drumming had left an indelible mark on my heart.

In my final year of high school, I experienced a serious accident that involved a significant head injury. Looking back, I wonder if it caused more damage than I realized at the time. Much of that period in my life feels fragmented, as though parts of it are missing. Over the years, I’ve dealt with memory challenges, but it wasn’t until much later that I began to experience debilitating daily migraines.

For more than four years, these migraines were a constant and exhausting presence. Then, I came across a sound healer whose story deeply resonated with me. Like me, he had suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He discovered the transformative healing power of sound—specifically through the gong. Through his journey, he not only alleviated his symptoms but also enhanced his brain function, with medical tests revealing that the vibrations of the gong had effectively restored his cognitive abilities to those of someone decades younger.

Hearing his story gave me hope: if sound could heal him, could it heal me too?

The science behind sound healing fascinated me. Everything in the universe vibrates; atoms, particles, and even the cells in our bodies are in constant motion. When these vibrations fall out of harmony—due to stress, injury, or trauma—our physical and mental health can suffer. The vibrations of the gong and other sound healing instruments work to realign these frequencies, creating balance and restoring harmony to the body and mind.

I decided to embrace sound baths, not only as a potential path to my own healing but also as a way to help others. Sound connects us in a profound way, reaching places that words and medicine often cannot.
